The match was suspended at 2-all in the third on Tuesday due to darkness, but on resumption, the American distanced himself from the Frenchman one of his two break points and ran away with the result. He’ll take on countryman Brandon Nakashima who is into his first quarterfinal of the season at the Lyon Open. Nakashima has scored two surprise wins this week, beating former Argentina No. 1 Diego Schwartzman and Arthur Rinderknech. He had last won a match in Miami prior to this week and had not put together back-to-back wins all year. But in as much as this run has been superb, Nakashima is not in Paul’s league at the moment. The World No. 17 is playing some top-tier tennis this season and is a tad unfortunate not to have won a title thus far. Maybe it could come this week.
