Djokovic vs Ruud Head-to-Head

Novak Djokovic leads Casper Ruud 4-0 in their head-to-head on the ATP Tour. It’s an ominous head-to-head for Ruud, having never won a set in 8 attempts against Djokovic, including an 0-2 head-to-head record against the Serb on clay. Ruud will be competing in his third Grand Slam final, while Djokovic enters his 34th, it’s safe to say both players will be settled in, but Djokovic remains the clear-cut favorite.

Djokovic vs Ruud Prediction

Novak Djokovic overcame Carlos Alcaraz in one of the most anticipated matches in recent years, taking him down in four sets despite an unfortunate conclusion as Alcaraz succumbed to full-body cramps after winning the second set. The level in the opening two sets was incredibly high nevertheless, with Djokovic hitting his forehand as big as he has all year and putting on a very clutch display on serve. He’ll love his chances against Casper Ruud, feeling like he’s already overcome his biggest hurdle of the tournament, and with a perfect head-to-head against the Norwegian, Ruud will need to rely on a miracle. The key for Ruud likely lies in grinding with Djokovic, if he’s able to run around his backhand and keep his forehand in play for as long as possible, it’s likely that he can do some damage.

Ruud was hitting his forehand as well as I’ve ever seen against Zverev, and there’s no other way for him to stand a chance at the title without working the points like that and attempting to outlast Djokovic. Ultimately though, Djokovic is hitting the ball so solid that I feel he’ll have absolutely no problem pummeling his backhand cross or line, as well as taking the point over with his forehand the moment Ruud gives him something to pounce on. It’s been a clean tournament from both players, but Djokovic is in pole position to win a record-breaking 23rd Grand Slam title, putting him ahead of his rivals for the first time, and I expect him to do it at the 2023 French Open.
