Defending champion Cameron Norrie looks to win his second title of 2023 and on clay. But his first-round match is not a cakewalk, with a man who has caused him problems in this matchup. Goffin was forced to retire in their first match in Barcelona two years ago just before he served to level the match. And he pushed the Birton right to the wire at last year’s Wimbledon. Goffin has had one match under his belt in Lyon, beating the qualifier Lopez San Martin in straight sets. Norrie has won four of his eight matches on the European clay, which does not stack up well with his excellent record in South American clay courts (8-1). Goffin’s ranking has fallen off a cliff, but his level has generally been decent coming to this tournament. We’d happily take the set handicap +1.5 on the Belgian here at evens.
