We have an interesting battle here between France’s rising star Arthur Fils who has enjoyed a breakout year on the ATP Tour against Sweden’s No. 1 Mikael Ymer. Fils secured a very good win against Zhizhen Zhang in the first round, beating the Chinese qualifier 6-3, 6-2. His first serve worked to perfection, tallying six aces and winning 81% first-serve points. Although he was broken twice, the Frenchman never looked in danger at any point in that match. He’ll face a fierce challenger in Ymer whose return is decent and is generally a solid counterpuncher from the baseline. The Swede defeated French veteran Richard Gasquet in his opener getting revenge for his loss in Bordeaux. I like Fils in this one, simply because he is serving at a very high level. Ymer’s serve looked a little suspect against Gasquet and Fils will expose that here and off the ground, the young Frenchman is the clear winner with his muscular ground strokes.
