Miami Open 2023: Petra Kvitova vs Ekaterina Alexandrova Prediction, Odds & Pick

TennisSection previews the 2023 Miami Open quarterfinal match featuring Petra Kvitova vs Ekaterina Alexandrova on Thursday, March 30, 2023.

Petra Kvitova vs Ekaterina Alexandrova Match Preview

Petra Kvitova has yet to move past the quarterfinal at the Miami Open in previous visits. Could she make it happen this time when she takes on fellow big hitter Ekaterina Alexandrova?

Petra Kvitova has been a consistent force on the women’s tour in the early goings of 2023. She is among those players with double-digit match wins heading to the clay next week. Here at the Miami Open, she has notched three impressive wins over high-quality opponents including an in-form Varvara Gracheva and Croatian top-20 player Donna Vekic. Remarkably, Kvitova has never made it past the quarterfinal stage at Sunshine Swing throughout her career including the Indian Wells tournament. So could she change that record when she plays Ekaterina Alexandrova?

Outside her third-round run at the Australian Open, Ekaterina Alexandrova has not been at her scintillating, free-flowing best coming to the Miami Open. But she has managed to play her best tennis on a hard court once again, earning an odds-defying win over World No. 9 Belinda Bencic and her inconsequential passage against Bianca Andreescu, who was forced to retire following her horror ankle injury on Monday night. Nonetheless, Alexandrova will battle Petra Kvitova for the right to reach the semifinal in Florida.

Petra Kvitova vs Ekaterina Alexandrova Prediction and Pick

Petra Kvitova leads Ekaterina Alexandrova 1-0 in their head-to-head, completely demolishing the Russian in their clash at the 2020 Australian Open. Don’t expect Wednesday’s meeting at the Miami Open to tread the same scoreline. While serve will dominate proceedings, none of them are flawless in that department, with Kvitova accounting for 16 DFs in three matches and Alexandrova with 13. But both have been flying with their ability to overpower their opponents at will on a quick court. Kvitova has tried to reach the semifinal at the Sunshine Swing but without success in five tries, often losing to higher-ranked opposition in that span. She’s got a lot of good things working her way this year and it is probably the only time from her previous quarterfinal matches here she is the favorite to win, and we’re backing her on the ML.
