Wimbledon 2022: Novak Djokovic vs. Nick Kyrgios Tennis Prediction and Pick

TennisSection previews 2022 Wimbledon as Novak Djokovic takes on Nick Kyrgios in the Final on Sunday July 10th, 2022.

A more mouth-watering Final couldn’t have been scripted here at 2022 Wimbledon as the top seeded Novak Djokovic will meet Nick Kyrgios in Sunday’s Final. The two men have a long history of being controversial and they are also capable of producing some stunning tennis. Djokovic is in search of his 21st Grand Slam title and the Aussie looking for his first, who will win what is expected to be a huge battle and lift the trophy?

Novak Djokovic is the obvious favorite here on paper, with the Serbian superstar being a six time champion here at Wimbledon. The top seed is one of the best players in tennis history and is laser focused on winning this title, which will bring him within one Grand Slam of Rafael Nadal’s record. He has not been at his clinical best throughout 2022 Wimbledon and has surprisingly lost more sets than expected, but has always found a way to will himself to win. In the Semis, he again dropped the first set to Cameron Norrie, before producing flawless tennis to cruise through the next three. His game is perfectly built for this surface and he is the big favorite heading into this clash with Nick Kyrgios. However, if there is one player in the world capable of causing the stunning upset here it is the temperamental Aussie, and Djokovic knows this.

The unseeded Nick Kyrgios is into his first ever Grand Slam Final, and while this may be a surprise to many, there is no denying that the talent has always been there. The Aussie has long had a history of producing world-class tennis, but letting his on and off court antics disrupt what would have been an amazing career. He has a chance now to put all of that behind him and stun the world, and if he is able to remain focused for the majority of the match we believe that he is capable of defeating the top seeded Novak Djokovic. Apart from his First Round win over Paul Jubb in five sets he has looked amazing here at 2022 Wimbledon, and crushed Cristian Garin in straight sets in the Quarter-Finals before receiving a walkover into the Final when Rafael Nadal retired. A well-rested and focused Kyrgios will strike fear into any opponent, and if he ever had an opportunity to prove the doubters wrong and win a slam, this is it. He will be counting on his massive serve to get him through this one, against potentially the best returner in the history of the game, and this match is poised to be a classic.

This will be the third meeting between the two players, with Kyrgios leading the head to head 2-0. However, they have not played each other in the last five years. One thing is for sure, this match will be full of drama and high-quality tennis. As always with matches involving Nick Kyrgios, it is almost impossible to predict as we never know which version of the Aussie will be taking the court. However, we have to assume that he will be fired up for his first Grand Slam Final, and he has traditionally saved his best tennis for when he faces the top players. Kyrgios is certainly capable of winning the title here at 2022 Wimbledon, but it is a tough ask to expect him to be able to be able to defeat Novak Djokovic over five sets. Nick Kyrgios has more firepower and the better serve, but deep in Grand Slams, experience and fitness are hugely important and Novak Djokovic has the big edge in those categories. I am expecting a huge battle and possibly the match of the year here, and while I would love nothing more than to see a Nick Kyrgios win I simply cannot go against the 20 time Grand Slam winner here, especially in a best of 5. It will be incredible to watch and can go either way, but I’m picking Novak Djokovic to have just enough to pull out the win.
