This is great to see because before last week I could not remember the last time in 12 months where Goffin won a second round match or further. Goffin is at the latter end of his career, so he will want to make the most of what he has left. However, he meets a young and determined opponent in Alejandro Davidovich Fokina now.
Alejandro Davidovich Fokina shocked the world on Tuesday, beating the World No.1 and talk of the tournament coming into the 2022 Monte-Carlo Masters, Novak Djokovic in 3 sets, 6-4/6-7/6-1. Fokina really gave it his all during that match, and he was able to push Djokovic to his limits (albeit Djokovic was not as good as we expected due to lack of play time). Alejandro was very emotional and happy from that win, but he will have got his focus back on Wednesday as he now prepares for this match against David Goffin.
Alejandro Davidovich Fokina and David Goffin have met 1 time before, with David Goffin leading the head to head 1-0. Although Goffin won a title last week and got some good early wins here, Alejandro proved the world that he can give it his all in the big moments. The power of the Spaniards shots, as well as the speed he showed around the court will take Goffin by surprise, who at this point might be feeling it physically after not having played this many matches in this many days in quite a while. I think Alejandro backs his amazing win up and makes his way to the Quarter-Finals of the 2022 Monte-Carlo Masters.
