Will Andrey Rublev show us the same level of tennis which he produced in the latter stages of his second round match? Both players are extremely entertaining to watch, but only one will make their way to the Quarter-Finals of the 2022 Monte-Carlo Masters. Who will it be?
Jannik Sinner did not bring his best tennis out in the second round against a fellow youngster, Emil Ruusuvuori, beating him in straight sets 7-5/6-3. Although the scoreline says otherwise, the match was extremely tight and a few points here or there could have changed the winner. Sinner has not been strong on his serve recently which then prevents him on gaining an upper hand early in rallies. If Sinner wants to get back to his best, he will need to get his serve to be better, especially against the likes of Andrey Rublev at the 2022 Monte-Carlo Masters.
Andrey Rublev put on a great comeback win in the second round, coming back from a set and break point down against Alex de Minaur. Alex was toying with Rublev for the first set, and there seemed to be no solution for the Russian. However, Rublev as he often does in early rounds of tournaments, found another level to hurt his opponent, eventually making the comeback to win in 3 setz 1-6/6-2/6-4. Andrey is defending his finalist points from last year here, so he knows that he cannot afford slip ups, especially now as he meets a tough opponent in Jannik Sinner at the 2022 Monte-Carlo Masters.
Andrey Rublev and Jannik Sinner have met 2 times before, with the head to head tied at 1-1. Jannik had a great season last year, improving and becoming a top 10 player at one point. However, he has been a bit sub par in the first few months of 2022, especially because of his serve struggles. If Sinner was better on his serve, I could see an upset here. However, Rublev showed some superb tennis in the second round, and I think that he will improve in this third round at the 2022 Monte-Carlo Masters.
