Lorenzo Musetti put on a great performance in the second round, beating a top 10 player in Felix Auger-Aliassime in straight sets 6-2/7-6. The win was not much of a shock as Felix showed poor tennis last week in Marrakesh, and Musetti is known for being strong on clay. Nonetheless, Musetti will have taken great confidence from this win and he will want to prove to the tennis world that he is back. However, it will be hard as he now meets Diego Schwartzman at the 2022 Monte-Carlo Masters.
Diego Schwartzman will be very happy with his second round win against the always tough, Marton Fucsovics, beating the Hungarian in straight sets 6-0/7-6. Schwartzman is finding some incredible form in these conditions, showing us just how hard it is to his through him as he seems to be everywhere on the court and returns everything with interest. Schwartzman will know that he can go far here at the 2022 Monte-Carlo Masters, especially with some big names already out of the draw. However, Lorenzo Musetti is not to be underestimated.
Diego Schwartzman and Lorenzo Musetti have met 1 time before, with Lorenzo Musetti leading the head to head 1-0. Lorenzo has had some solid wins this week and he should be proud of that, definitely showing signs of improvement as he begins his clay court season. However, he has not yet faced the tough returns of Diego Schwartzman who will return practically everything on clay. I expect for a tight opening set, but as the match goes on, Schwartzman will break down the Italian more and more at the 2022 Monte-Carlo Masters.
