TennisSection previews the 2022 Australian Open as Felix Auger-Aliassime takes on Emil Ruusuvuori in the Round of 128 on Tuesday, January 18th, 2021.
Will Felix Auger-Aliassime get the win? Will Emil Ruusuvuori pull off the upset? This will be an interesting one, where we have two next-gen stars coming to a clash. Who will move on to the Round of 64 at the 2022 Australian Open?
Felix Auger-Aliassime has been playing some great tennis, having just lead Canada to victory at the ATP Cup, taking down many top players with relative ease. I expect him to do the same to Emil Ruusuvuori, as Ruusuvuori does not have very consistent results in matches and FAA is looking to be in supreme form. Let’s see if FAA can meet expectations and take down the young next-gen star to kick off his campaign here at the 2022 Australian Open.
Emil Ruusuvuori has a very tough match against him as he has to take on world no. 9 Felix Auger-Aliassime in the first round. In order to take down FAA, he will have to hope that FAA has one of his inconsistent spurts, as FAA was definitely known to play at a very inconsistent level last season. However, at this point I expect him to get through more matches with ease, seeing as he took down top players like RBA and Zverev in the ATP Cup in a pretty devastating fashion. As an established top 10 player, I definitely think he will get through this one quite easily as he aims to kick off his campaign here at the 2022 Australian Open with a blast.
Felix Auger-Aliassime and Emil Ruusuvuori have never met before, with this being their first career meeting. Ruusuvuori plays a similar game to Jannik Sinner, it’s not a particularly good style to take on FAA, who you need a very consistent game to beat, as he is all about turning the rally into his favor with brutal hitting from the back of the court, generally hitting pretty aggressively and going for offensive plays. Let’s see if FAA can back up his recent results and get a good start to the 2022 Australian Open with a somewhat clean win over Ruusuvuori showing his top level.
