TennisSection previews the 2021 Davis Cup Finals as Alexander Bublik takes on Mikael Ymer in the Round Robin stage on Saturday, November 27th, 2021.
Will Mikael Ymer beat a much higher ranked opponent as he aims to get a good win under his belt for Team Sweden? Will Alexander Bublik show us his amazing and flamboyant tennis which can help him beat nearly anyone on his best day? Only one will get the strong win for their team at the 2021 Davis Cup Finals. Who will it be?
Mikael Ymer will be very happy with his opening match here at the 2021 Davis Cup Finals, beating the much more experienced player, Vasek Pospisil, in 2 straight forward sets. Mikael is a power hitter and he has great movement. The only thing that is lacking from his game is consistency and mentality when under pressure. Mikael will want to get some solid matches under his belt here before the start of the 2022 season as it can give him some confidence and momentum. However, he meets a much tougher opponent in Alexander Bublik now.
Alexander Bublik had a great year on the ATP Tour this year, getting 33 wins under his belt, which is nearly as many wins as he had ever gotten on the ATP Tour in his 5 years as a professional prior to 2021. Alexander has shown some determination coming into tournaments, making it known that he is here to give it his best, and when he does, he is very hard to stop. Alexander has a great arsenal of shots, with a great serve, forehand, and backhand. Adding to this, he has the amazing ability to switch direction, pace, and spin of the ball with ease. Mikael Ymer here at the 2021 Davis Cup Finals will have a lot to work out on how to beat him.
Alexander Bublik and Mikael Ymer have never met before, with this being their first career meeting. Although Mikael played a great opening match, he is still not near the level required to compete with top 40 players in my opinion. Alexander will know that in these indoor hard court conditions, he will have a strong chance to get easy points off of his serve, and when the ball is returned, he should be able to paint the lines. With this being his first match, perhaps there will be some rust, and Mikael might get a set, but other than that, I see a good win for Alexander Bublik at the 2021 Davis Cup Finals.
