Alcaraz vs Berrettini Prediction

For the second year in a row, Carlos Alcaraz advanced into the second week at the Wimbledon Championships. He put every muscle in action to combat the hard-hitting Nicolas Jarry in a hard-fought 6-3, 6-7, 6-3, 7-5 in close to four hours. Alcaraz was a break down in the fourth set, and had Jarry been a little more clinical, the match would have gone the full distance.

But such is Alcaraz’s level and intensity that he brings to each match, and used his own power to quell the challenge of the towering Chilean. The fact that Alcaraz measured himself against such a tough test puts him in a really good position to make serious inroads in the second week.

Matteo Berrettini, meanwhile, is proving quite a thorn in the lawn. The 2021 finalist served Alexander Zverev out of the tournament in straight sets. An abdominal injury had forced Berrettini to spend more time on the sidelines than on the court in the past three months. But his grass-court prowess and quick adaptability have been major assets in his armor. Berrettini declared himself match-fit following his four-set win over Lorenzo Sonego in the first round. But wins over Alex de Minaur and Alexander Zverev have got everyone taking notice of ”The Italian Hammer” who held in all 18 of his service games to win 6-3, 7-6, 7-6. Zverev didn’t play badly, but Berrettini won the decisive points in the match.

This is developing into quite a rivalry. We’ve seen some classics between Alcaraz and Berrettini. The Italian brings industrious power and makes full use of his one-handed slice which is such an asset to have on grass. Obviously, Alcaraz will try and limit playing to Berrettini’s forehand with the Italian bringing so much power with every swing. Berrettini’s form has caught everyone by surprise, and for a man who was destined to exit this tournament at the first hurdle, he deserves all the plaudits for getting this far. I think he’s got every chance of pushing Alcaraz with his cannon of a serve and relentless forehand power. Back him to earn at least a set, but Alcaraz should win outright.
