Medjedovic vs Zhang Prediction

Hamad Medjedovic could be the next big star of Serbian tennis. The 19-year-old continues to fast-track his rise this season, qualifying for both French Open and Wimbledon in the past couple of months. Medjedovic rose to prominence last season when he won the Luedenscheid Challenger, beating Zhizhen Zhang in the final quite comprehensively. He has since lifted two more titles on the ATP’s second tier this year, and he’s a player who thrives on the quicker clay. It wouldn’t come as a surprise if he makes a seamless transition on the ATP Tour. He played a couple of qualifying matches at the weekend and secured his spot in the main draw of Gstaad, beating Federico Gaio and Otto Virtanen.

Zhang, meanwhile, enters this tournament on the back of a marathon first-round exit at Wimbledon at the hands of Botic van de Zandschulp. The Chinese man has been a sensation on clay this year, reaching his first Masters quarterfinal in impressive fashion in Madrid. Zhang defeated the likes of Shapovalov, Norrie and Taylor Fritz in the Spanish capital, and like Medjedeovic, thrives at altitude. He went on to perform quite commendably at Roland Garros where he made the third round and even took a set off eventual finalist Casper Ruud.

This should be a great battle, and I expect Zhang to give a better account of himself than when he last faced Medjedovic. However, the Serbian Next Gen star is not short of confidence right now, and these conditions in Gstaad play in his hands.
