Richard Gasquet suffered a truly hefty beatdown in the semifinal of the Bordeaux Challenger against compatriot and eventual champion Ugo Humbert taking just two games in the match. The veteran was putting together a promising run on clay just in time for the upcoming French Open. While Gasquet’s experience and age will mean he’ll quickly expel that loss out of his memory bank, it has exploited a weakness in his game that Mikael Ymer will look to capitalize. The Swede failed miserably in doing so in Bordeaux, wasting at least four set points before losing to Gasquet in straight sets. While I do think Ymer needs more match sharpness on clay to find his range, he shouldn’t be discounted altogether considering how he managed to see off both Medjedovic and Van Assche in Bordeaux. There is not much to separate these two, but we’ll take Ymer, just about.
