TennisSection previews the 2022 Adelaide 2 Open as Marton Fucsovics takes on Corentin Moutet in the second round on Wednesday, January 12th, 2022.
Can Marton Fucsovics back up his fine win over Botic van de Zandschulp on Tuesday at the Adelaide 2 Open? Or will the French qualifier Corentin Moutet make it four wins from four when they meet for the first time in their series?
Marton Fucsovics can be a very difficult player to predict. The Hungarian has always struggled with consistency throughout his career, but when he picks his spots, he is a player who can throw a spanner in the works. Fucsovics has tallied multiple Top 10 wins in his career and memorably became Hungary’s first ATP Tour champion in 36 years at the Geneva Open in 2018. He also soared to a career-high ranking of World No. 31. All these accomplishments prove that he is a player who can challenge the very best players in the world. The Hungarian is seeking a first quarterfinal of the season when he takes on Corentin Moutet at the Adelaide 2 Open.
Corentin Moutet had the misfortune of receiving the first disquisition of 2022 after his shameful behavior cost him the match at the Adelaide 1 Open last week. Moutet had berated the chair umpire for a number of line calls which went against him in his match against Laslo Djere. Due to his conduct on the court, the match official had no option but to dismiss him off court. The Frenchman has got his temper in check this week at the Adelaide 2 Open. Having successfully scaled the qualifying rounds, Moutet shocked the World No. 50 Jan-Lennard Struff 6-2 6-4 in 88 minutes in the main draw. The left-handed Moutet saved seven of eight break points and won 67% first-serve points.
Marton Fucsovics and Corentin Moutet have not played each other on the ATP Tour. While this is a very difficult one to call, I like Fucsovic’s chances in this match. His recent renaissance is positive, and he should soon break the Top 30. While he may not possess a potent weapon in his arsenal, Fucsovics has a solid all-round game and is a great mover from the back of the court. The manner in which van de Zandschulp failed to impose himself with his craft tells me Moutet may suffer a similar fate here.
