Jannik Sinner will play fellow Italian Lorenzo Musetti for the second week in a row. Who will prevail this time and reach the Barcelona Open semifinal?

We expected Jannik Sinner to cruise into the quarterfinal of the Barcelona Open, but Thursday was quite complicated for the hard-hitting Italian who dropped a set to Japanese lefty Yoshihito Nishioka. He picked up a knee injury towards the end of his match against Schwartzman and that probably affected his often reliable movement, with Nishioka piercing through the Sinner defense, breaking him three times in the second set. But Sinner didn’t show any apparent physical issues, and dominated the third set.

Lorenzo Musetti also needed a three-setter to reach the Barcelona Open quarterfinals. He came from a set down to defeat British No. 1 Cameron Norrie 3-6, 6-4, 6-1. Musetti has yet to defeat his older compatriot Sinner and lost quite handily in Monte Carlo just a week ago. Let’s see if he has it in him to withstand a barrage from the fourth seed.

Sinner struggled to put away Schwartzman in his first match at the Barcelona Open, after picking up a knee injury towards the end of the second set, but still got the job done in straight sets. Playing a lefty in his second match made life a tad difficult given just how good Nishioka is at creating angles, but Sinner managed to overcome that hurdle. Obviously, Musetti looks to be in better form than both Sinner’s two previous opponents, but he doesn’t possess the firepower to outhit Sinner nor the serve to blast through the court from the baseline.
