Indian Wells Masters 2023: Alejandro Tabilo vs. Jordan Thompson Tennis Pick and Prediction

TennisSection previews the 2023 Indian Wells Masters as Alejandro Tabilo takes on Jordan Thompson in the third round on Sunday, March 12, 2023.

What a massive opportunity this is for both Alejandro Tabilo and Jordan Thomspon to make the fourth round of the Indian Wells Masters for the first time. Who will prevail when the qualifier takes on a giant killer?

Alejandro Tabilo vs. Jordan Thompson Match Preview

Alejandro Tabilo has come through qualifying and scored two fantastic victories in the main draw. Perhaps the most impressive win came in the second round when he shocked big-serving Maxime Cressy. With neither player dropping serve the entire match, Tabilo knew the only way to survive the Cressy onslaught is to pinch the tiebreaks, which he did in straight sets. The second in particular was simply jaw-dropping, with the Chilean winning it 15-13. He will play Jordan Thompson instead of Stefanos Tsitsipas after the Aussie authored his own shock win at Indian Wells Masters.

Jordan Thompson scored the biggest win of his career by knocking out the second seed Stefanos Tsitsipas 7-6 4-6 7-6 in two and half hours of pulsating tennis. Thompson, like Tabilo, was clutch in the tiebreaks. He did not lose a single point in the first set tiebreak and despite Tsitsipas storming back in the second, the Aussie went on to complete the shock in another tiebreak set in the decider. He reached the third round of the Indian Wells Masters for the first time.

Alejandro Tabilo vs. Jordan Thompson Prediction and Pick

Alejandro Tabilo and Jordan Thompson have not played each other on the ATP Tour. Sunday’s match at the Indian Wells Masters will be their first official meeting. Thomspon didn’t get a lot of credit for beating Gael Monfils in his opener, with many people cautious to pick him for the upset against Tsitsipas, largely because the Frenchman was playing his first match in a while. But it appeared the Greek is still not operating at 100% with his forehand miss on match point case in point. Still, it was a fabulous win, one which should very well give the Aussie something to cling to in his third-round match on Sunday. We like Thompson to win here on ML.
