TennisSection previews the 2023 WTA Indian Wells tournament as Rebecca Peterson takes on Zhang Shuai in the second round on Friday, March 10, 2023.

In-form Rebecca Peterson is looking unstoppable right now. But will veteran Chinese Zhang Shuai pick up a rare main draw win at the 2023 WTA Indian Wells on Friday?
Rebecca Peterson vs. Zhang Shuai Match Preview
Rebecca Peterson earned a very good win in her first-round match against Marta Kostyuk, the Austin champion, winning a three-set dogfight to make it three wins in a row. Peterson has been in fine form since the start of February and has come through qualifying here at Indian Wells before shocking the Ukrainian.

Zhang Shuai, meanwhile, has hit a rough patch in recent weeks. Since her excellent run to the fourth round of the Australian Open, she has lost four in a row. That includes an early defeat in Lyon where she was the defending champion. She has fallen down to No. 27 in the rankings and has been overtaken by Qinwen Zheng as her country’s No. 1 ahead of her first match at Indian Wells on Friday night.

Rebecca Peterson vs. Zhang Shuai Prediction and Pick
Rebecca Peterson leads Zhang Shuai 2-1 in their head-to-head, winning their most recent match at the WTA 125K in Andorra last year. Peterson looks in fine fettle coming into this second-round match at Indian Wells, having already claimed a major scalp in her opener. With Zhang looking like a shadow of the player that made the second week of the Australian Open, the Swede looks primed to reach the third round.
