TennisSection previews the 2021 Cincinnati Open as Brandon Nakashima takes on Mackenzie McDonald in the Round of 64 on Monday, August 16th, 2021.
Which of these two highly-exciting to watch Americans will get themselves in the Round of 32 here at the 2021 Cincinnati Open? Will it be the more experienced Mackenzie McDonald to use his slight experience advantage, or will Brandon Nakashima use his amazing form coming into the Cincinnati Open to give himself a great chance at another deep run in a tournament? Both players can win this match, but only one will make their way to the Round of 32 of the 2021 Cincinnati Open. Who will it be?
Mackenzie McDonald has been in great form during the North American hard court season, reaching the Washington Open Final just a couple weeks ago where he lost in a very tight 3 set match against the in form Jannik Sinner. However, going into the Toronto Open right after, McDonald lost in the Round of 64 to Benoit Paire who he had beaten in Washington the week before. McDonald has the level to compete against big name players, having beaten the likes of Kyrgios and Nishikori, but he just needs to find the consistency in his game as he now meets the improving and up and coming Brandon Nakashima here at the 2021 Cincinnati Open.
Brandon Nakashima has been in amazing form over the last month or so, reaching the Fianl of both the Los Cabos Open and the Atlanta Open. Although he lost those Finals, he then made it to the Round of 16 of the Washington Open before taking a week off before the Cincinnati Open begins. Brandon has a great powerful game with huge shots in his arsenal. Nakashima is a rising star and he will be working very hard to ensure he continues rising up the rankings and gets himself a spot in the NextGen Finals at the end of the year. However, he needs to fend off his fellow American who is also in great form in Mackenzie McDonald.
Brandon Nakashima and Mackenzie McDonald have met 1 time before, with Brandon Nakashima leading the head to head 1-0. They met last year in a Challenger Tour event where Nakashima won in straight sets 6-3/7-6. Mackenzie McDonald is definitely in form at the moment and he will keep things tight, but he is no match for the incredible tennis shown by Brandon Nakashima over the last month. Brandon one of the biggest stars for American tennis in the future, and he will keep shining in these hard court conditions here at the 2021 Cincinnati Open.
