TennisSection previews the 2023 Acapulco Open as Alex de Minaur takes on Taro Daniel in the quarterfinals on Thursday, March 2, 2023.

Will Alex de Minaur get the win? Will Taro Daniel pull off the upset? This will be an interesting one, where we have the fastest man on tour taking on a player coming off one of the biggest wins of his life. Who will triumph and move through to the semifinals at the 2023 Acapulco Open?
Alex de Minaur took down Berrettini 6-1 6-0 in an impressive display of tennis, no, not Matteo Berrettini, but his younger brother in Jacopo Berrettini. It was a solid level from him as he looks ahead to Taro Daniel who is coming off an incredible win over Casper Ruud. If de Minaur wants to keep rolling, he’ll need to look to be the man keeping the rallies going, since he has the weapons to outhit Daniel from the back of the court as he looks to advance to the semifinals of the 2023 Acapulco Open.

Taro Daniel took out 2nd seed Casper Ruud 7-5 2-6 7-6 (5), as is evident by the scoreline, he did so in quite an incredible fashion, reaching crazy balls and frustrating the Norwegian. Though he comes up against Alex de Minaur, another player well above his own ranking, he can take solace in that de Minaur is no Casper Ruud. De Minaur is playing some great stuff though and absolutely remains the favorite to advance here at the 2023 Acapulco Open.

Alex de Minaur and Taro Daniel have met once before, with Alex de Minaur leading the head to head 1-0. Their one meeting came at the 2018 US Open, with de Minaur dropping just 3 games en route to that victory. As de Minaur looks ahead to this one, he’ll be really liking his chances at a semifinal appearance at the 2023 Acapulco Open. It is tough to imagine a different outcome.
