TennisSection previews the 2021 Davis Cup Finals as Cameron Norrie takes on Jiri Vesely in the Round Robin stage on Sunday, November 28th, 2021.
Will Jiri Vesely shock us all and beat one of the most in form players of the year to give Team Czech Republic any hope here? Will Cameron Norrie lead Team Great Britain to some more wins as they aim to make their way to the Quarter-Finals? Both players can play some great tennis on their day, but who will set their team up for success here at the 2021 Davis Cup Finals?
Jiri Vesely will be very disappointed in his opening match here at the 2021 Davis Cup Finals, losing quite easily to Adrian Mannarino after he had won the first set against him. Jiri is a good player and sometimes can bring out some great performances. However, he is a player who is much more suited to clay courts where he has more time on the ball and is able to move better. In indoor hard court conditions, he knows that he has to find another level, and this will be very hard now that his teams hopes rely on him being able to beat Cameron Norrie.
Cameron Norrie has been incredible all year, showing everyone that he should not be underestimated and he is so close to being a top 10 player. Cameron beat Arthur Rinderknech quite comfortably in his opening match and secured the win over Team France for Team GB. Cameron Norrie has a great game overall, and with his lefty swings he can target most opponent’s weaker side, their backhand. Team GB are in a great position to get into the Quarter-Finals of the 2021 Davis Cup Finals, but he should not take Jiri Vesely too lightly.
Cameron Norrie and Jiri Vesely have never met before, with this being their first career meeting. Although Jiri Vesely has more experience in terms of matches, and they have won the same titles in their career. Cameron won 50 matches this year, 2 titles, one of which was Indian Wells. Cameron is on an other level to the Czech and he will show him why he is so hard to beat this year. Jiri might be able to hang in with him just because he is also a lefty, but Cameron is able to change direction with ease which will eventually give him the edge here at the 2021 Davis Cup Finals.
