Holger Rune has been on an absolute tear, and despite a tough loss to Rublev in 5 sets in the fourth round down under, he’s likely the slight favorite for this tournament in a potential mouth-watering final against Jannik Sinner. Before he gets there though, he has a very tough road ahead of him starting off with Marc-Andrea Huesler, a player who he’s struggled against before, but I expect him to battle his way past the Swiss and book his spot in the last eight of the 2023 Montpellier Open.

Marc-Andrea Huesler got through in 3 sets in his first round, and although he struggled, he got through and that’s all that matters in the end. He’ll have to put on a better display of tennis though if he wants a shot at taking out Holger Rune. Although he has had success against him in the past, I don’t know if he has the level to take out an in-form Rune here at the 2023 Montpellier Open.

Holger Rune and Marc-Andrea Huesler have met twice before, with Marc-Andrea Huesler leading the head to head 2-0. Huesler scored a couple of wins against Rune last season, the more notable victory coming in the final of Sofia. Although Rune hadn’t quite hit his stride yet, he was already playing amazing tennis and that match may very well get in the Dane’s head. Ultimately, I still expect Rune to get through this very tough opening match and move through to the quarterfinals at the 2023 Montpellier Open.
