TennisSection previews the 2023 Lyon Open as Alycia Parks takes on Maryna Zanevska in the semifinal on Friday, February 4, 2023.

Alycia Parks continued her recent dominance on indoor hard courts with another big win over Danka Kovinic. But she knows it would mean nothing if she doesn’t make Sunday’s final. Can the American stop a rampaging Maryna Zanevska on Saturday at the Lyon Open?
Alycia Parks continues to go from strength to strength in 2023. She has put the disappointment of missing out on this year’s Australian Open to one side and channeled her focus at the Lyon Open. Parks has been handsomely rewarded with a semifinal place after battling past Danka Kovinic in a tight first set before prevailing 7-5 6-2. The American had her own serving jitters, coughing up five double faults. But over the course of the match, she was able to make some adjustments to her game and kept her errors in check.

Maryna Zanevska, for her part, is on a rampage at this week’s Lyon Open. Having accounted for defending champion Zhang Shuai in the second round in devastating fashion, the Belgian won a topsy-turvy three-setter in the quarterfinal against Anastasia Potapova. It was Zanevska who was efficient and took her chances breaking Potapova seven times from 18 opportunities.
Alycia Parks and Maryna Zanevska have not played each other on the WTA Tour. Saturday’s semifinal match at the Lyon Open will be their first official meeting. Zanevska possesses the experience to get over the line at this stage, having won her only WTA title in 2021. But Parks is a future star in the women’s game and is steadily on the rise. The Belgian cannot be underestimated given just how efficient and aggressive she has been on return all week. However, as long as Parks is able to compose herself on serve, she will have this firmly on her racket.
