TennisSection previews the 2022 Halle Open as Felix Auger-Aliassime takes on Hubert Hurkacz in the quarterfinals on Friday, June 17th, 2022.
Will Felix Auger-Aliassime get the win? Will Hubert Hurkacz pull off the upset? This will be a fascinating one, where we have two of the best grass court players in the world coming to a clash. Who will triumph and move on to the semifinals at the 2022 Halle Open?
Felix Auger-Aliassime has been playing some very good tennis lately, despite a few odd losses. Focusing on the grass, he made the quarterfinals of Wimbledon last year, as well as the semifinals last year here, where he beat Hubert Hurkacz en route. While it should be a tight match, FAA is simply in better form, and has a good matchup when it comes to playing Hurkacz, as Hurkacz likes to play a dictating baseline game and generally avoids defense, but FAA is the definition of a baseline puncher, and I expect him to be the one moving Hurkacz around the court as the World No. 9 seeks down a place in the semifinals back to back years at the 2022 Halle Open.
Hubert Hurkacz got a solid win over Hugo Humbert, the defending champion. Hurkacz himself made the semifinals of Wimbledon last year, but hasn’t really had the best results this season. While still a guy to beat not just on grass, but on the ATP Tour, Felix Auger-Aliassime will be a brutal challenge for him. With the power and aggression of FAA, I don’t see Hurkacz being able to squeeze himself in there enough to genuinely be able to turn the match in his favor as he aims to stay in this one at the 2022 Halle Open.
Felix Auger-Aliassime and Hubert Hurkacz have met twice before, with Felix Auger-Aliassime leading the head to head 2-0.One of their meetings came here in Halle, both matches were straight set wins for the Canadian. Hurkacz will most certainly have a chance, seeing as both players are massive servers, I expect them to play some tight sets, but ultimately FAA will be the one digging himself out of the baseline exchanges, sending him into the last four to battle for a place in the final at the 2022 Halle Open.
