TennisSection previews the 2023 Australian Open as Daniil Medvedev takes on John Millman in the Round of 64 on Wednesday, January 18, 2023.

Daniil Medvedev delivered an emphatic win in his opening match, but he will battle the relentless John Millman who came through a brutal five-setter to get here. Will the 7th seed prevail?
Daniil Medvedev eased past Marcos Giron in a comprehensive fashion and booked his spot in the second round of the Australian Open, winning 6-0 6-1 6-2 in just over one and a half hours. Medvedev fired 26 winners in the match and saved all six break points he faced. The Russian was extremely pleased with his performance calling Giron ‘a tough opponent’. Next up for him is the Aussie wild card John Millman.

John Millman, for his part, navigated his way past Swiss lefty Marc-Andrea Huesler in a seesaw opener at the Australian Open in front of a packed crowd on Court 3. The Australian Ironman trailed two sets to one, but mounted a spirited fightback to shock Huesler, reeling off 12 of the last 17 games in the match to win 6-7 7-5 6-7 6-2 6-3. But will Daniil Medvedev be a bridge too far for Millman?
Daniil Medvedev and John Millman have not played each other on the ATP Tour. Wednesday’s match at the Australian Open will be their first official meeting. Medvedev produced one of his finest performances yet, although the victory was tainted by swearing at a fan towards the end of the match. He will play the role of a pantomime villain now, and against a home favorite. But as long as he remains focused and composed, he should breeze past Millman.
