TennisSection previews the 2023 Australian Open as Jannik Sinner takes on Kyle Edmund in the Round of 128 on Sunday, January 16, 2023.

Will Jannik Sinner get the win? Will Kyle Edmund pull off the upset? This will be a fascinating one, where we have one of the stars of the future facing a big hitter returning from injury. Who will triumph and move through to the Round of 64 at the 2023 Australian Open?
Jannik Sinner once again suffered an issue with injuries in Adelaide, but he did lose a really tight one to Korda before he essentially had to throw in the towel in the 2nd. Despite how unlucky he has been with injuries, I expect Sinner to regroup from his issues and get a 2nd consecutive win over Edmund this season to book his spot in the Round of 64 at the 2023 Australian Open.

Kyle Edmund will be feeling pretty unlucky having to draw Jannik Sinner in the first round after just losing to him pretty comfortably in Adelaide. To be quite frank, his only chance of coming out of this match is with Sinner suffering an injury, and while at this point that honestly isn’t out of the realm of possibility, it still isn’t something that you count on and it’s ultimately very likely that Sinner goes through this one and into the 2nd round of the 2023 Australian Open.
Jannik Sinner and Kyle Edmund have met once before, with Jannik Sinner leading the head to head 1-0. As alluded to earlier, Sinner picked up an easy 6-3 6-2 win over Edmund, and I don’t expect this match to go any differently. Edmund is simply not at a level where he will be able to challenge a player of such quality, let’s see if the Italian can produce some positive signs heading into this year’s Australian Open.
