TennisSection previews the 2022 Tokyo Open as Miomir Kecmanovic takes on Yoshihito Nishioka in the Round of 32 on Tuesday, October 4th, 2022.
Will Miomir Kecmanovic get the win? Will Yoshihito Nishioka pull off the upset? This will be a fascinating one, where the crowd favorite here in Japan takes on a dangerous opponent. Who will triumph and move through to the Round of 16 at the 2022 Tokyo Open?
Miomir Kecmanovic has a real tough opponent here in the first round, having to take on the hometown hero in Japanese No. 1 Yoshihito Nishioka, should Kecmanovic want to win here, he’ll have to play at his very best. While his very best is very good, we haven’t seen a ton of that level since earlier on in the season, so let’s see if he’s able to bring out his top form in what should be an exciting match here at the 2022 Tokyo Open.
Yoshihito Nishioka has been playing some great tennis for a while now, making the final in Washington and just taking out Casper Ruud in Korea. Coming into this match, especially given the conditions, he will be the favorite. While his ranking and past results might not equate to that of Kecmanovic, Nishioka is playing some great tennis and I really think he’ll use the moment to his advantage at the 2022 Tokyo Open.
Miomir Kecmanovic and Yoshihito Nishioka have met twice before, with the head to head being tied at 1-1. Kecmanovic took their first meeting in just one set, with Nishioka being forced to retire, but Nishioka took their second meeting on the clay in rather straightforward fashion. They haven’t really played in a while and they’ve both made big strides in their game. I expect a great match, but ultimately Nishioka will prevail at home with the crowd behind him to book a spot in the Round of 16 at the 2022 Tokyo Open.
