Will Carlos Alcaraz get the win? Will Cameron Norrie pull off the upset? This will be a fascinating one, where we have the sensational Spaniard taking on quite the tough opponent. Who will triumph and move on to the quarterfinals at the 2022 Madrid Open?
Carlos Alcaraz got a slightly shaky but convincing win over Basilashvili to set up a tougher meeting coming up against Cameron Norrie. I don’t love the conditions in Madrid for Alcaraz all that match, I think the ball flies a lot more than he’ll be used to on a clay court and that’ll force him to spray more errors as we’ve already seen. Not to mention Norrie will be a tough competitor, I still favor Alcaraz, of course, but it’ll be a good test as he aims to make the last eight at the 2022 Madrid Open.
Cameron Norrie took down John Isner, a great win for him. He won’t be pleased to see that he meets Carlos Alcaraz in the draw, seeing as how their last meetings have gone. Norrie has yet to take a set off Alcaraz, but I do think that’s bound to change. I actually think Norrie is a pretty good matchup for Alcaraz. I also like the conditions here for him, I do think he’ll push Carlos, but in the end be overcome by the Spaniard to bow out of the 2022 Madrid Open.
Carlos Alcaraz and Cameron Norrie have met twice before, with Carlos Alcaraz leading the head to head 2-0. Alcaraz took out Norrie at the US Open last year, following it up with a win in the quarterfinals of Indian Wells. Two very impressive wins considering the form of Norrie, and looking at their history, the clay, the crowd, their respective forms, it’s a no-brainer to say Alcaraz is looking to take this one, but it won’t be easy as he aims to book himself a place in the quarterfinals of the 2022 Madrid Open.
