Paris Masters 2022: Brandon Nakashima vs. Dan Evans Tennis Pick and Prediction

TennisSection previews the 2022 Paris Masters as Dan Evanstakes on Brandon Nakashima in the first round on Tuesday, November 1st, 2022.

The final tournament of the regular ATP season comes to a close as Dan Evans takes on Brandon Nakashima in a tasty opening-round match at the Paris Masters. Will the Brit get the win to push for a top 20 debut? Or Will Nakashima pick up his second win in their series?

Dan Evans lost in the quarterfinal in Vienna to fellow one-hander Denis Shapovalov. Defeat dealt Evans a major setback in his bid to crack the top 20 for the first time. But it has been a very decent year for the British No. 2 who has won 30 matches so far – a career-best – and is on course to record a personal high in terms of winning percentage (currently behind his 2020 ratio). Evans has picked up most of his wins on hard courts but won the Nottingham Challenger on grass during the European summer. The 32-year-old has not won a match at the Paris Masters and will be keen to amend that record when he takes on Brandon Nakashima.

Brandon Nakashima, like Evans, has enjoyed a progressive year in 2022. Nakashima is now certain to finish the season inside the top 50 for the first time in his career after a fantastic second half of the campaign. The American Former Next Gen star reached the second week of a Grand Slam for the first time at Wimbledon, losing in a dramatic five-setter against Nick Kyrgios. A few months later, he would win his first ATP title at his hometown of San Diego, beating Marcos Giron in the final. He is 4-3 on hard courts and is set to make his Paris Masters debut.

Brandon Nakashima leads Dan Evans 1-0 in their head-to-head. The American coolly dispatched Evans in their last showdown in Washington last season 7-6 6-0. This will be tight as I expect both players to leave it all one final time before bringing the curtain down on their season. Nakashima’s defeat to Wawrinkain Basel (a one hander for that matter) spells more trouble ahead at the Paris Masters. The Briton might have conditions very much for his liking and should end his winless run at the French capital.
