Karen Khachanov is a great grass courter, making the quarterfinals of Wimbledon last season before crashing out to Shapovalov in 5 sets. He also played a great tournament in Roland Garros this year, and played solidly in the Libema Open despite losing to FAA. He has a great opportunity to move through here as he faces his friend and rival Aslan Karatsev. Karatsev really hasn’t been playing very well lately, and despite having a solid game for grass, finds himself in a very difficult position as Khachanov aims down a place in the Round of 16 at the 2022 Halle Open.
Aslan Karatsev hasn’t been playing too well as of late, struggling to convert on any opportunities he gets, despite having an amazing first half of the season in 2021, it’s been all downhill. It doesn’t help that he’s coming up against Karen Khachanov here to kick off the grass court season. In order to take him down, he’ll have to find that old, pure ball striking tennis that we all know and love here at the 2022 Halle Open.
Karen Khachanov and Aslan Karatsev have met three times before, with Karen Khachanov leading the head to head 2-1.Karatsevn took their first meeting, but Khachanov took the next 2 and it looks like that trend will only continue from here on out as he aims to take his current form back up to where it was a couple of years ago. He’s had some solid results spaced out, but to find a consistent level once again, he’ll have to prove himself as he aims to take out Karatsev at the 2022 Halle Open.
