Andrey Rublev is one of the best players in the world on the grass, holding a pretty solid record here and possessing a strong game for the surface. He made the final of Halle last season, and he met Nikoloz Basilashvili in the semifinals. He was able to win then, and although he hasn’t had quite the results he would have liked to have had since 2020, he’s only been getting better and I definitely expect him to get a good start off to the grass season at the 2022 Halle Open.
Nikoloz Basilashvili hasn’t been having the best results tournament to tournament, but when he’s at his best, he’s very difficult to beat due to the sheer power and aggression that he plays with. While it may not be easy, I think he can take it to Andrey Rublev if he’s at his best. He needs to really attack Rublev’s second serve return, but it’s perhaps not as vulnerable on grass which really limits the Georgian’s options as he aims to pull off the upset at the 2022 Halle Open.
Andrey Rublev and Nikoloz Basilashvili have met 5 times before, with Andrey Rublev leading the head to head 3-2. Their first 2 meetings came in 2019, before Rublev was nearly as good as he is now, let alone in adverse conditions. Rublev took the next 3 meetings, and I expect that trend to continue as Rublev aims to advance to the last 16 once again here at the 2022 Halle Open.
