Since leaving Australia, this was perhaps Tsitsipas’ best display yet, looking in total command of proceedings and having a very efficient return that brought him 16 break points and converting seven. He’ll look to reach another semifinal at the Madrid Open, having done so at last year’s edition.

Jan-Lennard Struff, meanwhile, advanced into his second quarterfinal on clay this season, and perhaps strikingly, both coming at Masters 1000 level. Strufff proves his run in Monte Carlo was no fluke, and he’s a bit fortunate to get this far, having only entered the main draw as a lucky loser.
