Stefanos Tsitsipas vs. Jan-Lennard Struff Preview
Will Stefanos Tsitsipas return to another semifinal at the Madrid Open when he plays German lucky loser Jan-Lennard Struff?
It was vintage Stefanos Tsitsipas in the round of 16 as the Greek came full circle in beating Bernabe Zapata Miralles 6-3, 6-1. Since leaving Australia, this was perhaps Tsitsipas’ best display yet, looking in total command of proceedings and having a very efficient return that brought him 16 break points and converting seven. He’ll look to reach another semifinal at the Madrid Open, having done so at last year’s edition.
Jan-Lennard Struff, meanwhile, advanced into his second quarterfinal on clay this season, and perhaps strikingly, both coming at Masters 1000 level. Strufff proves his run in Monte Carlo was no fluke, and he’s a bit fortunate to get this far, having only entered the main draw as a lucky loser.
Stefanos Tsitsipas vs. Jan-Lennard Struff Prediction and Pick
Stefanos Tsitsipas leads Jan-Lennard Struff 4-2 in their head-to-head, winning their last two bouts. Tsitsipas struggled to impose himself in his first two matches at the Madrid Open, being pushed to a third set by both Thiem and Sebastian Baez. But he was back to his scintillating best against Zapata Miralles, which bodes well for his chances in this match. Struff has put in the hard yards and like in Monte Carlo, his great run will come to a screeching halt in the quarterfinal.
