Azarenka vs Stephens Prediction
Victoria Azarenka and Sloane Stephens are tied at 4-4 in their head-to-head. On clay it’s 1-1, with Azarenka getting her revenge of Madrid 2019 at the Charleston Open last month, winning that bout in three sets. After a slow start to the season, Stephens came full circle at the Saint-Malo WTA 125K tournament where she won her first title of the season, dropping just one set all week. Stephens hasn’t shown any fatigue issues as she breezed past Nadia Podoroska in her opening match at the Italian Open. Azarenka has suffered a couple of eyebrow-raising defeats, both in Charleston and Madrid, losing to Kalinskaya and Alycia Parks respectively. That early-season form has evaporated although she does have a great record in Rome. It should be a tight one, but we like Stephens taking a set here after her recent upturn in fortunes.
