Basel Open 2022: Alejandro Davidovich Fokina vs. Miomir Kecmanovic Tennis Pick and Prediction

TennisSection previews the 2022 Basel Open as Alejandro Davidovich Fokina takes on Miomir Kecmanovic in the first round on Tuesday, October 25th, 2022.

Will Alejandro Davidovich Fokina snap his three-match losing streak at the Basel Open? Or will Miomir Kecmanovic ascend higher than his current ranking of No. 28 this week? Two of the ATP’s 23-year-olds will do battle in an intriguing clash on Tuesday.

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina has done most of his good work in the first half of the season where he reached his first Masters 1000 final in Monte Carlo. While he has reached multiple quarterfinals since then in other Tour-level events, his US Open run to the fourth round is probably the only achievement that stacks up to his runner-up finish at the Principality in terms of prestige and grandeur. Davidovich Fokina was beaten in the first hurdle in each of his last two indoor hard-court tournaments and without winning a set. He is set to start as a slight underdog against Kecmanovic at the Basel Open.

Miomir Kecmanovic, for his part, reached the semifinals in Naples over the weekend, losing to eventual champion Lorenzo Musetti. Kecmanovic has backed up his good results in the second half of the campaign to those he put together in the first half of the season and is now sitting at a career-high ranking of No. 28. He is comfortably Serbia’s No.2 and is slowly living to his teenage hype. The 23-year-old has a compiled a 39-24 record for the season in 2022 heading to the Basel Open.

Miomir Kecmanovic leads Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 2-0 in their head-to-head. However, these two players have not contested a match since the 2019 Next Gen ATP Finals where Kecmanovic won in straight sets. The Serbian comes to the Basel Open with sky-high confidence. It is tough to pick Davidovich Fokina on the evidence of his last two results, but he should at least serve a better performance here even in another defeat.
