French Open 2022: Rafael Nadal vs. Alexander Zverev Tennis Pick and Prediction

TennisSection previews the 2022 French Open as Rafael Nadal takes on Alexander Zverev in the semifinals on Friday, June 3rd, 2022.

Will Rafael Nadal get the win? Will Alexander Zverev pull off the upset? This will be a fascinating one, where we have the eternal favorite of Roland Garros seeking a record-extending 22nd major title as he comes to a heads with the young German looking to pull off the win of his career. Who will triumph and move on to the final at the 2022 French Open?

Rafael Nadal pulled off an astonishing win over Novak Djokovic, defeating his great rival in 4 hours, getting revenge for last year’s encounter. All hope seemed lost before the tournament, but he played his best tennis of the season to book a semifinal meeting with Alexander Zverev. Nadal took down Djokovic, and really should be feeling super confident as he comes up against Zverev, but he should be very cautious anyhow, this is the semifinals of a major, and Zverev plays a massive game that can blow you off the court if you aren’t careful. The Spanish legend doesn’t just seek a 22nd major, but an astonishing 14th win just at the French Open, let’s see if he can get past this contest and into the final round to battle for the crown at the 2022 French Open.

Alexander Zverev took down Carlos Alcaraz, and while he is the World No. 3, he was not the favorite in the match. For a first top-10 win at a major, this was quite a massive one. He got it done in 4 sets, 9-7 in the 4th set tiebreaker. He took care of his serve really well and was incredibly aggressive with the backhand. If he wants to beat Rafael Nadal, he’ll have to do the same, but better in almost every way, especially to not let Nadal jump all over his forehand. He will essentially need to maintain a level of high aggression throughout the entire match, which is possible, but he will have to dig deeper than ever before if he wants to step into unprecedented territory by defeating Rafael Nadal in the semifinals of the 2022 French Open as he seeks the World No. 2 ranking and a spot in his 2nd major final.

Rafael Nadal and Alexander Zverev have met 9 times before, with Rafael Nadal leading the head to head 6-3. This will be the 10th meeting between the two, and by far their biggest one. On clay, Nadal leads their head to head 4-1, with the one win coming on Zverev’s best surface in Madrid with the quicker clay courts. In this match, it’s Nadal’s to win or lose. He’s now leading the field by a very large margin as the heavy favorite to win the tournament, and if Zverev wants to pull off the impossible, he will have to hope for nothing short of a miracle although it will likely still remain a competitive match as the Spanish legend Rafael Nadal seeks a place in the last 2 to battle for the title at the 2022 French Open.
