TennisSection previews the Monte-Carlo Masters 2022 as Sebastian Korda takes on Botic van de Zandschulp in the Round of 64 on Monday, April 11th, 2022.
Will Sebastian Korda get the win? Will Botic van de Zandschulp pull off the upset? This will be a fascinating one, where we two massive hitters on a new surface. Who will triumph and move on to the Round of 32 at the Monte-Carlo Masters 2022?
Sebastian Korda has been playing some pretty good tennis as of late, and while I don’t love him on the clay, I still expect him to get past a tough first opponent in Botic van de Zandschulp. Van de Zandschulp has been playing some great tennis, but I really don’t love him on the clay, and with Korda’s variety of shotmaking with slightly heavier balls and the ability to grind more, I expect him to out-consist his opponent and book a place in the Round of 32 at the Monte-Carlo Masters 2022.
Botic van de Zandschulp has been playing some good tennis, recording some big wins such as FAA in the sunshine double, and consistently playing solid tennis since his stunning run to the quarterfinals of the US Open last season. He has quite the match ahead of him though in in Sebastian Korda. While both players are naturally inclined to faster surfaces, Korda we have actually seen in action everywhere, and we know that he can play on the clay and it is rather evident in their playstyles as to who will win that matchup. Let’s see if he can meet expectations at the Monte-Carlo Masters 2022.
Sebastian Korda and Botic van de Zandschulp have met once before, with Botic van de Zandschulp leading the head to head 1-0. Their one meeting came on the indoor hard courts in St. Petersburg last year, with van de Zandschulp winning quite easily. I think their matches could go either way on a different court with their extremely risky playstyles, but Korda’s game has more room to lower the risk required for quicker courts and up the consistency of the slower clay. Let’s see if he can do it and move on to the Round of 32 at the Monte-Carlo Masters 2022.
