Daniil Medvedev improved to 28-3 for the season and tops the ATP Race on the eve of the Miami Masters final against Jannik Sinner. Medvedev has been delighted and generally pleased with his level in North America. He’s comfortably the ATP’s most-improved player after a dreadful run in 2022 by his high standards. He’ll get another crack to put the disappointment of losing the Indian Wells final to bed when he takes on another player on the rise.
Jannik Sinner, meanwhile, won the latest installment of his enthralling rivalry against Carlos Alcaraz. He stormed back from dropping the first-set tiebreak and then saved a couple of crucial break points in the second set before dominating a heavy-legged Alcaraz in the third set. After ending Alcaraz’s title reign at the Miami Masters (was 10-0) he’ll now look to arrest his winless record against Daniil Medvedev in their head-to-head (0-5).
Medvedev vs Sinner Prediction and Pick
Daniil Medvedev leads Jannik Sinner 5-0 in their head-to-head. It is imperative to note that Sinner has pushed Medvedev to a deciding set three times and looks a solid bet to at least take a set here for a safe pick. He won the first set in their last meeting in Rotterdam a couple of months ago and the peculiar slow conditions there perhaps didn’t allow him to swing freely throughout. Medvedev’s draw at the 2023 Miami Masters has been an absolute gift from the tennis gods. He played his first top-50 opponent in the semifinal, beating Khachanov in three. It’s been a while now that Sinner has been on the staircase for a breakthrough title in his burgeoning career. I feel he’ll get his moment on Sunday.
