TennisSection previews the 2023 Charleston Open semifinal match featuring Ons Jabeur vs Daria Kasatkina on Saturday, April 8, 2023.
Jabeur vs Kasatkina Match Preview
Ons Jabeur will look to reach her second successive final at the Charleston Open. But former champion Daria Kasatkina appears ready to stem the challenge. Who will prevail?
Ons Jabeur has put her recent injury struggles behind her. She has played with verve and elegance in her run to the semifinal at the Charleston Open. The Tunisian drop short machine is yet to drop a set this week, and benefitted from a retirement by Anna Kalinskaya who retired with a leg injury with the score 6-0, 4-1 in the quarterfinal.
Daria Kasatkina, meanwhile, produced her best performance of the season on so many levels to reach the semifinal at the Charleston Open for the second time. Kasatkina defeated Madison Keys 6-7, 6-4, 6-2, picking up just her second win in 10 attempts against the American power hitter. In a match with huge momentum shifts, there were 17 breaks of serve, with Kasatkina edging it with 10.
Jabeur v Kasatkina Prediction and Pick
Ons Jabeur leads Daria Kasatkina 4-2 in their head-to-head, winning their last two meetings on the clay. Obviously, both players love this surface and the conditions at the Charleston Open. But I really favor Jabeur in this one. Her mix of the slice and the drop shot will unsettle Kasatkina. The Russian is a wizard too with her swashbuckling style and rally tolerance, but her second serve will be greatly exposed with Jabauer’s fast-paced ground strokes on the return. The Tunisian is primed to make her second final in South Carolina.
Free Tennis Prediction and Pick: Ons Jabeur ML (-167)
