Monte-Carlo Masters 2023: Jannik Sinner vs Holger Rune Tennis Pick and Prediction

TennisSection previews the 2023 Monte-Carlo Masters semifinal match featuring Jannik Sinner vs Holger Rune on Saturday, April 15, 2023.

Sinner vs Rune Match Preview and Prediction

Will Jannik Sinner book a spot in a second straight Masters final? Will Holger Rune fight for a chance to win his second title in the Masters series? This should be a fascinating battle between two of the ATP’s youngest talents. Who will prevail and reach the Monte-Carlo Masters final?

Jannik Sinner displayed a masterclass against his countryman Lorenzo Musetti who was coming off the biggest win of his career having taken out World No. 1 Novak Djokovic. Sinner faced very little adversity, but upcoming will be his toughest match of the tournament as he takes on fellow teenage sensation Holger Rune. Sinner would like to think he may have a very slight edge, particularly on this surface given his experience, but Rune has produced very good results on the clay himself and has already won his maiden Masters title on the indoor hard courts. Let’s see if Sinner can take one step closer to the biggest title in his career as he hopes to book himself a spot in the final come Sunday at the 2023 Monte-Carlo Masters.

Holger Rune took down Daniil Medvedev in a relatively straightforward fashion, not struggling too much as he dispatched the 3rd seed in their first-ever meeting. Although it felt like a flat performance from his opponent, Rune played the match tactically extremely well, bringing Medvedev to the net and hitting some excellent drop shots. As he takes on Jannik Sinner, he’ll feel they are very evenly matched and since he has a title at this level under his belt already, perhaps more prepared to potentially reserve a spot in the finals of the 2023 Monte-Carlo Masters.

Sinner vs Rune Prediction and Pick

Jannik Sinner and Holger Rune have met once before, with Holger Rune leading the head to head 1-0. Rune took down Sinner in three sets, with Sinner retiring late in the third set towards the end of last year in the semifinals of Sofia. Rune was about to enter an excellent run of wins during the indoor season, with this match almost kicking off that excellent form. This time around, Sinner has shown no physical issues and has been ruthless in many of his matches, having made such a great start to the year and possessing the consistency that is necessary to defeat Holger Rune. I expect him to be the one making fewer unforced errors and at large being able to dictate play. Let’s see if the young Italian is able to match expectations and book a spot in his 3rd Masters final with the crowd firmly behind him here at the 2023 Monte-Carlo Masters.
