Benoit Paire hasn’t been having great results this year, after really picking up his level last year. His ranking has dropped down quite a few spots, and as he looks ahead to Soonwoo Kwon, it most certainly won’t be easy. Kwon has been playing some great tennis lately, really being able to push some players, and I expect him to take down Paire and move on to the last 16 at the 2022 Estoril Open.
Soonwoo Kwon has been improving his game, playing some great matches this year, being able to push many players. Having taken a set off the eventual champion in Carlos Alcaraz at the Barcelona Open, we know he can play on the clay, it’s just a matter of if he can maintain his level. Paire is most certainly the definition of inconsistent if there ever was one, and I don’t think he can pick up his level to stay in this one at the 2022 Estoril Open.
Benoit Paire and Soonwoo Kwon have met twice before, with the head to head being tied at 1-1. Their two meetings both came on clay, but Kwon won their most recent one in Barcelona 6-4 6-4, giving him confidence coming into the Estoril Open. The two are playing each other not even a week later, so Kwon will definitely know what his game plan is coming into this one. I expect him to take down Paire and book himself a place in the Round of 16 at the 2022 Estoril Open.
