Petra Kvitova cruised through her Third Round match, beating the very experienced and determined Johanna Konta in straight sets 6-1/6-2. Petra Kvitova was able to just come out there and get everything she wanted from that match. Petra has a massive serve, which allows her to win so many easy points on her serve, but she also has great movement around the court which allows her to get a lot of balls back into play when she is returning. Petra needs to get herself back in the top half of the Top 10 in the WTA Tour, and I am sure that she will be very determined to give it her best shot here in Miami. Elina Svitolina came through an extremely tight 2-set encounter against Ekaterina Alexandrova, beating the Russian 7-6(1)/6-4. Elina Svitolina is not on top of her game here and she has struggled with consistency throughout sets, as well as her issue with her right-wrist. Svitolina has been struggling for a while now with form, and she needs to get herself going again on the winning train because it is a slippery slope if this continues. Elina is one of the toughest opponents you can meet on the WTA Tour, but at the moment this is not the case. How will the Ukrainian fare against a very in form Petra Kvitova on Monday at the 2021 Miami Open?
Elina Svitolina and Petra Kvitova have met 9 times before, with Petra Kvitova leading the head to head 7-2. The last time these two met was at the WTA Finals in 2018, where Elina Svitolina won in straight sets 6-3/6-3. I expect this to be a very tight match between both players as they are both great competitors who will give it their all in later stages of tournaments. However, when having to predict who will win, I cannot back Elina Svitolina at the moment. Watching her matches does not give me confidence that she will be able to handle Petra Kvitova’s serve and ability to return well. Kvitova will know she is in better form and will be confident in herself here. Petra Kvitova will make her way to the Quarter-finals of the 2021 Miami Open.
