TennisSection previews the 2022 Indian Wells Open as Nick Kyrgios takes on Sebastian Baez in the Round of 128 on Thursday, March 10th, 2022.
Will Nick Kyrgios get the win? Will Sebastian Baez pull off the upset? This will be an interesting one, where we have the infamous Nick Kyrgios taking on a tough next-gen star. Who will triumph to move through to the Round of 64 at the 2022 Indian Wells Open?
Nick Kyrgios played pretty great at the 2022 Australian Open, playing a great match against top player Daniil Medvedev in the 2nd round, even taking a set, putting his skills on full display. Obviously then going on to win the mens doubles championship. I do think he’ll continue his high level of play here, even though it is quite a tough draw, and a tough first opponent. Sebastian Baez has been in good form, but will he be good enough for the much more experienced Nick Kyrgios? I doubt it, in the end, even if it takes 3 sets, I expect him to get the win and book a place in the Round of 64 at the 2022 Indian Wells Open.
Sebastian Baez has a very tough one ahead of him as he stares down Nick Kyrgios, a scary opponent for anyone. Kyrgios has had nice results here, and there’s little that suggests that Baez can compete with him. Baez is a great young player, and he does prefer slower surfaces while Kyrgios prefers faster surfaces, but they can both player on either one. Baez I think won’t be able to deal with Nicks serving, and Kyrgios will of course be jumping all over the Baez serve, although he is not an acclaimed returner. Let’s see what the Australian can do here at the 2022 Indian Wells Open.
Nick Kyrgios and Sebastian Baez have never met before, with this being their first career meeting. I don’t think it’s a good matchup for Baez. Baez can be compared to Schwartzman, but potentially more lethal since he is a little taller. Kyrgios is a perfect repellent to a player of that style, sort of like how Federer was always able to outclass Diego but Rafa or Novak struggled a little bit more. It’s not a good matchup for Baez as he plays more of a consistent style and Kyrgios plays a very aggressive game with a serve to neutralize the above average returning styles of shorter guys with great movement. Still though, Kyrgios hasn’t played a lot of singles lately while Baez has, let’s see if he can pull it off as he aims to move through to the next round once again here in California at the 2022 Indian Wells Open.
