TennisSection previews the Indian Wells 2022 as Karen Khachanov takes on Jenson Brooksby in the Round of 64 on Saturday, March 12th, 2022.
Will Karen Khachanov get the win? Will Jenson Brooksby pull off the upset? This will be an interesting one, where we have a top tier player taking on a young challenger with his home crowd behind him. Who will triumph to move through to the Round of 32 at Indian Wells 2022?
Karen Khachanov hasn’t been looking too great. Last season, he played a nice early summer, reaching the quarterfinals of Wimbledon and winning the silver medal at the Olympics, but failing to do much else. He has a very hard match ahead of him in Jenson Brooksby, a guy who will love a slow hard court, compared to Khachanov who would much rather like a quicker court. We cannot ignore what’s going on in the world at the moment either, and with the crowd likely to totally get behind Brooksby, while of course Khachanov will put up a fight as he is the better player, I think he’s primed for an upset here against Brooksby as he looks to get past a really tough one here at Indian Wells 2022.
Jenson Brooksby got a nice win to kick off his campaign here, showing what he’s all about, insane consistency with relatively low pace balls, but really nice redirection and the ability to throw in many quirky shots here and there. I think he really is a perfect recipe to take out Khachanov, especially on a slow court like here. Khachanov hasn’t been playing great, and if he’s at his best, I definitely expect him to win, but all factors suggest that Khachanov won’t be near his best as Brooksby looks to pull the upset and progress at Indian Wells 2022.
Karen Khachanov and Jenson Brooksby have never met before, with this being their first career meeting. It is a good matchup for Brooksby, Khachanov has a big serve and big groundstrokes, who is a nightmare to play from the baseline when he’s on because he finds all his spots with incredible pace. Brooksby is a very defensive player though, and when you have someone like Khachanov who is not in good form taking on a guy with Brooksby’s style, it seems like a recipe for disaster as Brooksby aims to take down a tough opponent and move on at Indian Wells 2022.
