After trading breaks, Hurkacz, however, went on to win it in a tiebreak.
Dominik Koepfer has been a real giant killer this week. Needless to say, the German wouldn’t even have made the main draw of the 2021 Paris Masters had it not been for a late entry as a lucky loser. Koepfer has grasped this second chance with both hands. He sensationally defeated former World No. 1 Andy Murray in his first-round match, saving a whopping seven match points. And his latest win on Wednesday ended one ATP Finals contender’s hopes. Koepfer had a surprisingly straightforward afternoon beating Felix Auger-Aliassime 6-3 7-5 than his dramatic win over Murray. The German lefty withstood 10 aces from the Canadian’s racket, and secured four breaks of serve to progress.
The head-to-head between Hubert Hurkacz and Dominik Koepfer stands at 0-0. These two players have not crossed paths at any level before this scheduled Round of 16 encounter at the 2021 Paris Masters. Hurkacz will need to keep on winning to give himself a shot at overtaking the likes of Sinner and Ruud in the Race. This match will be a real test of character for the Pole.
