TennisSection previews the 2021 Paris Masters as Cameron Norrie takes on Reilly Opelka in the Round of 32 on Wednesday, November 3rd, 2021.
Will Reilly Opelka use his huge assets such as his serve to get a big win under his belt and get into the Round of 16 here in Paris? Will Cameron Norrie continue to perform at a very high level as he comes off his biggest ever title? Both players have great assets in their game respectively, but who’s assets are going to get them over the line as they both aim to get into the Round of 16 of the 2021 Paris Masters?
Reilly Opelka put on a solid performance against the indoor hard court loving Filip Krajinovic, beating the Serb in straight sets 6-3/7-6. Reilly is showing much more ambitons to not just play for tiebreaks recently and this is a great thing to see from the American because his return game was really the thing which let him down in the first half of the year. Reilly Opelka will come into this match knowing he meets a great returner and a tough one as he is a lefty in Cameron Norrie. Will he be able to be solid on his backhand to get the upset here at the 2021 Paris Masters?
Cameron Norrie cruised through his opening round match here at the 2021 Paris Masters, beating Federico Delbonis in straight sets 6-2/6-1. The form of the Brit that he showed a few weeks ago when he won his maiden Masters 1000 title in Indian Wells has definitely come over to Paris with him. Norrie has a great all round game with big shots, but the thing which allows him to hurt his opponents is that he is a lefty, therefore having an easier time to target balls to his opponents’ backhand. Norrie will know his return game will need to be very good here as he meets the huge server in Reilly Opelka.
Cameron Norrie and Reilly Opelka have met 2 times before, with the head to head tied at 1-1. They last met last year in Cincinnati where Opelka won in 2 easy sets. However, since then, Cameron Norrie has raised his level drastically. Norrie has been one of the most consistent and in form players this year, up top with the best in the world in terms of having won 48 matches this year and 2 titles. Opelka has been good in the last month or so, but he is still nowhere near the level required to compete against a good returner, especially a lefty. I expect a somewhat easy match on the return game for the Brit as he makes his way to the Round of 16 of the 2021 Paris Masters.
