Big-serving veteran John Isner is in search of his first ATP title of the year here at the 2021 Los Cabos Open. He will face fellow American Brandon Nakashima for a spot in Sunday’s Final. Nakashima is a young prospect that has shown loads of potential throughout his short career, can he cause the massive upset and defeat the veteran John Isner to reach his first ATP Final?
John Isner is the second seed here at the 2021 Los Cabos Open and is currently ranked #39 on the ATP Tour. The American has had a long and successful career which sadly is nearing its end. However, he is still capable of some fantastic tennis, and his serve remains one of the premier weapons on the Tour. After a difficult start to the year where he had some inconsistent results, he has found form here in Los Cabos, overcoming a tough three setter against Evgeny Donskoy before comfortably defeating Alex Bolt 6-4, 6-4 in the Quarter-Finals. He enters this match against Brandon Nakashima as the big favorite due to his superior ranking and experience, but will be wary of the youngster here, who is one of the top young prospects from the United States and has also been playing some great tennis this week.
Brandon Nakashima is unseeded here at the 2021 Los Cabos Open, and is currently ranked #134 on the ATP Tour. The young American is a former ITF Junior Masters champion, and big things have been expected of him for quite some time. He is living up to that promise here in Mexico, and has reached his first ATP Semi-Final with some strong tennis this week, notably defeating Sam Querrey in the Round of 16 and Jordan Thompson in the Quarter-Finals. While he is the big underdog here against John Isner, he is a very good returner, and moves extremely well on the court. These traits match up well against Isner’s style, and he will be feeling extremely confident after his exploits this week.
This will be the first meeting between the two players on the ATP Tour and it should be a relatively easy one to call. Brandon Nakashima has played very well so far this week and possibly has a big future ahead of him in the sport, but he is not yet ready to win at this level. John Isner has one of the most dominant weapons in tennis history in his huge serve, and his immense experience will carry him through here. Nakashima is a solid player and is good enough to keep it interesting, but expect Isner to eventually pull away and win this match, advancing to the Final here at the 2021 Los Cabos Open.
