Alexander Bublik is very talented but can be unpredictable at times. Who will get the win here and advance to their first Masters-1000 Semi-Final here at the 2021 Miami Open? Will it be the young Italian superstar Jannik Sinner reaching the Semis? Or will the enigmatic Alexander Bublik spoil the party and cause the minor upset?
Jannik Sinner is largely considered a lock to be a future top five player and Grand Slam champion. Possessing a huge game and mature game for his young age, he has hugely impressed since bursting onto the ATP Tour, already winning two ATP titles. Currently ranked a career-high #28 in the ATP world rankings, he has been outstanding here so far at the 2021 Miami Open. He upset Karen Khachanov in the Third Round, and cruised through his Round of 16 match against Emil Ruusuvuori. The young Italian dominated a match that was expected to be close from start to finished, displayed controlled aggression to dominate his opponent from the baseline. It is incredible to see how mature he is on court, and how he never gets flustered in any situation. He is the slight favorite here over Alexander Bublik and will be seeking to reach his first ATP-1000 Semi-Final.
Alexander Bublik is currently ranked a career-high #43 in the ATP world rankings and is one of the hardest players to predict on the ATP Tour. He has a reputation of losing focus and throwing matches away, however he has had that under control thus far in 2021. It is no surprise that this has been his most successful season, and he has a renewed commitment to the game. He has been very impressive so far here at the 2021 Miami Open, defeating Laslo Djere and James Duckworth in straight sets, before a huge win over Taylor Fritz in the Round of 16. This is the type of match that shows his new-found maturity, as he fought valiantly to come away with a three set win over the favored Fritz. When he is fully focused he has the game to trouble anyone in the world, and cannot be discounted here even though Jannik Sinner gets all the attention.
This is sure to be a very entertaining match, and is not one to be missed by tennis fans. Jannik Sinner and Alexander Bublik have played each other once before in their careers, with Sinner leading the head to head 1-0. The young Italian won a tough three setter earlier this year in Dubai, and will take confidence in the fact that he has defeated Bublik before. Like many of his matches, the outcome here depends on the Kazakh. If he plays well, he has the tools necessary to get the win here. However, I am going with Jannik Sinner to get the win here. Bublik has seemed fully locked in so I do think it will go the distance, but Sinner is less likely to get flustered in the big moments and should come away with a hard-fought win here at the 2021 Miami Open.
