Both players will bring their best here and put on a solid performance for the fans, but only one will make their way to the Round of 64 at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships. Who will it be?
Carla Suarez Navarro made her long and awaited return to the tennis world earlier this month as she played at the French Open, losing in the Round of 128 to Sloane Stephens in a tight match. Carla Suarez Navarro is a fighter both on and off the court, and she has one of the best games when she is at her best. She has not played any warm up tournaments before Wimbledon, but I am sure she has been putting the work in behind closed doors to come out here and show us that she can still compete. Carla would have loved an easier start to the tournament, as she meets Ashleigh Barty, in the first match, but I am sure she can handle herself here.
Ashleigh Barty is looking to come back from a hip injury which prevented her from playing much at the French Open and give up defending her title. Ashleigh Barty will know she has a tough road to be at her best, especially as she did not play any warm up tournaments beforehand, but I am sure she will know that she can bring out her best at the biggest tournaments. Ashleigh Barty meets a tough challenger right from the start in the experienced Carla Suarez Navarro, so she will have to fight to ensure she can come through this match at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships.
Ashleigh Barty and Carla Suarez Navarro have never met before, with this being their first meeting. I expect for this to be a tight match between both players. They both need to find their game on grass not having played since the French Open, and they both have the experience to get the win under their belt. I would love to see Carla Suarez Navarro cause the upset here, but I think Ashleigh Barty will get the win because she has played much more this year. Carla can keep things tight, and maybe even get a set under her belt, but Ashleigh Barty will make her way to the Round of 64 of the 2021 Wimbledon Championships.
