TennisSection previews the 2021 Toronto Open as Casper Ruud takes on Dusan Lajovic in the Round of 16 on Thursday, August 12th, 2021.
Will Dusan Lajovic back up that huge win which he got against the local crowd favourite, Felix Auger-Aliassime, as he aims to beat another Next Gen player? Will Casper Ruud continue to show us some amazing tennis after having won 3 titles in 3 weeks in the last month? Both players can win this match if they are at their best, but only one will make their way to the Quarter-Finals of the 2021 Toronto Open. Who will it be?
Dusan Lajovic showed amazing composure during the Round of 32 match against Felix Auger-Aliassime, just returning everything and forcing Felix to hit harder shots which led to more errors. Dusan is experienced and he is finding his form again after having struggled with form in a few months. Dusan is definitely someone you should not underestimate because he has a great one-handed backhand which can be both extremely powerful, but also quite subtle. Dusan will have a tough match now however here at the 2021 Toronto Open, meeting his toughest opponent so far this week, Casper Ruud.
Casper Ruud showed some great tennis in his opening match here against the hard court loving Marin Cilic, beating the Tokyo Double’s Silver medallist in 3 sets 6-3/3-6/6-3. Casper Ruud has shown some amazing tennis in July and in August as he won 3 ATP 250 titles in 3 weeks and that is not an easy thing to do, as its so tiring. However, Ruud has an amazing groundstroke game and he will use the momentum and confidence gained from those titles, as well as his opening win here, to give himself the best chance to beat Dusan Lajovic here at the 2021 Toronto Open.
Casper Ruud and Dusan Lajovic have met 1 time before, with Casper Ruud leading the head to head 1-0. They met on clay last year where Ruud won in straight sets. I expect a tighter match perhaps than their last one, just because Dusan has gotten some big wins under his belt here at the 2021 Toronto Open. However, there is a reason why Casper Ruud won 3 titles in 3 weeks, and beat Marin Cilic in his first match here, and that is that he is able to withstand the pressure. I see the Norwegian getting another solid win under his belt through his power hitting game and make his way to the Quarter-Finals of the 2021 Toronto Open.
