French Open 2021: Stefanos Tsitsipas vs. Alexander Zverev Tennis Pick and Prediction

TennisSection previews the 2021 French Open as Stefanos Tsitsipas (5) meets Alexander Zverev (6) in the Semi-Finals on Friday June 11th, 2021.

A blockbuster is expected here in the 2021 French Open Semi-Finals as fifth seeded Stefanos Tsitsipas will face sixth seed Alexander Zverev. Both men have been outstanding so far in 2021, and are considered serious threats for the title here at Roland Garros. Who will get the win to advance to their first Final here in Paris?

Stefanos Tsitsipas is currently ranked #5 in the ATP world rankings and is also the fifth seed here at the 2021 French Open. The Greek superstar was considered one of the pre-tournament favorites to challenge Rafael Nadal for the crown here in Paris, and he has backed that tag up with a string of impressive performances. Tsitsipas has only lost one set in his path to the Semi-Final, and is peaking at the right time to finally make his debut in a Grand Slam Final. He was impressive in his Quarter-Final win over second seeded Daniil Medvedev, controlling the tempo of the match from the baseline and serving extremely well. The fifth seed should be considered the slight favorite here against Alexander Zverev due to his superior head to head record, but we are sure to be in for a huge battle here at Roland Garros 2021.

Alexander Zverev is the sixth seed here at Roland Garros 2021, and is ranked #6 in the world. Like his opponent Stefanos Tsitsipas, he had an outstanding 2021 season, highlighted by his win at the Madrid Masters event. After a slow start in the First Round he has turned it up a few gears, dominating his opponents en route to the Semi-Finals. While he won in straight sets, he started very slowly in the Quarter-Finals against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, committing numerous errors and struggling mightily with his serve. The German recovered well to win convincingly in the end, but the main reason for that was the fact that his opponent was struggling badly with fatigue and gave him a slew of free points, something that Tsitsipas won’t do. He will have to be much improved here if he wants to advance to the Final here at the 2021 French Open.

This will be the eighth meeting between the two players on the ATP Tour, with Stefanos Tsitsipas surprisingly dominating the head to head 5-2. This match is incredibly hard to predict here at Roland Garros 2021 as it is between two players that have been having similarly strong clay court seasons, and are very close together in the rankings. I have noticed that the Greek is favored by many and deservedly so, as he has been in outstanding form for the entire year and has a comfortable lead in the head to head. However, I am going against the grain and backing Alexander Zverev to win here at the 2021 French Open. While he served poorly in the Quarter-Finals, I expect him to bounce back strongly here and I don’t think that nerves will affect him as much as they will Tsitsipas. This match will almost certainly go the distance and both men are fully capable of winning here, but I am going with the German to play the big points better and advance to his first ever French Open Final.
